Sandstone knowledge
The 22 catalogue routes are commercial names. ASTM C616 separates sandstone, quartzitic sandstone and quartzite; the supplied class, bedding, source, lot range and performance evidence must therefore be confirmed rather than inferred.
Identity control
Petrography and project evidence should resolve sandstone, quartzitic sandstone or quartzite, including mineralogy, cement, porosity, bedding and alteration relevant to the intended exposure.
Buying programmes
These appearance programmes structure comparisons; they are not grades or origin claims.
Evidence matrix
Use licensed current ASTM, BIS and project requirements for acceptance. No universal catalogue value can replace source- and exposure-specific evidence.
Commercial identity
commercial-identityApproved trade name, aliases and substitutions; colour and geographic words alone do not prove source or class.
Quartz-based class
quartz-based-classSandstone, quartzitic sandstone or quartzite classification supported by petrography/free-silica framework where specification requires it.
Source & lot
origin-and-lotCountry, region, quarry/program and block/bench/lot chain at the precision claimed.
Bedding & cutting
bedding-orientationNatural bed, riven/cleft direction, face orientation, load orientation and installation orientation.
Visual range

Dimensions & calibration

Compression & MOR
compression-morKeep ASTM C170 and C99 results distinct; record wet/dry state and orientation relative to bedding.
Flexural strength

Abrasion & slip
abrasion-slipTraffic- and finish-specific results; test the exact surface in relevant wet/dry conditions.
Weathering exposure

Sealer & maintenance
sealer-cleaningMock-up sealer, jointing, cleaning chemistry, colour change, efflorescence and maintenance plan.
Finish control
Approve the exact stone–finish combination from current production.
Application control
Loads, module, support, drainage, joints, climate and maintenance must be assessed together.
